The Best Of.....
Here are a few things that i've come across that could very well have the title of 'the best of' items for their respective categories.
of course this is my opinion and it could be subject to change, but i like 'talking up' what i like....so there:
this little devotional book is great, most especially the first two lectures contained therein. i've read a lot of devotional books. for me, the ones that help you to be 'aware' and the ones that help you 'to pray and experiment' while reading are the best. this is one of them.

i've been watching videos by R.L. Burnside on You Tube for some time, but the CD collections i've tried at the record store have often been....well, not that great...either poor recording quality or 'off the wall' stuff that the 'fat possum' record people did with R.L. later in his career
(most especially to appeal to younger folks that were hip and punk and probably didn't know much about the blues i've read)
anyway, this is the collection for me....recording quality is good, mostly R.L. and his guitar doing his 'one chord' north mississippi hill country blues....it's a good un'!!!
remember what i said about the first book above? well, ditto here. except easier to launch into 'the most important of coversations' even after reading a few lines...liner notes on this edition seem to be great.
ha! this is here just because i like the society of st. vincent de paul and the work they do and i look forward to getting this little publication in the mail. it came today!!!

Driven to Draw.
'The humor of everyday life is way funnier than what the comedians do on t.v. it's the stuff that happens right in front of your face when there's no routine and everything is unexpected...that's what i want to write about.'
-harvey pekar (american splendor)
boy, still doodling as much as i can lately....there's a student in my class that probably shouldn't be there. her disabilities may put her out of the range of what our class is designed for. but, i hope she gets to stay because she is a 'straight-shooting' salve in what is a pretty dysfunctional work environment....i really enjoy working with her. the first two cartoons are a couple of interactions we've had.

leaking through
sometimes you make decisions to the best of your ability (i.e. taking a job transfer that you thought would be good, but well....ehm...maybe wasn't) and they don't turn out how you hoped they would. that's life i guess. i suppose acceptance of this reality help soften the blow. humor helps me too. at least i think it does. below are all the pictures i've done in the last short while that help release my anger, frustration, and impatience if not only for a little bit.
acceptance and humor can also help bide the time in case things turn out for the better even though you thought they couldn't.
